Stowaway Bar

  • Throwback to 2012 in Freshwater, Sydney and nothing much was going on in the way of community vibes. There was nowhere you could get a frosty cold, craft beer. No small bars. No intimate venues. Only joints with pokies, TAB and sports on the big screen. We needed a space where the community could get together and connect with each other.

  • On Jan 2013 a small bar called Stowaway opened its doors.

The design brief was to create a space where people could get lost in. A place that reminded them of adventures in old worlds. We wanted customers to forget about their day to day and lose themselves whilst listening to husky blues and drinking quality drops.

We steered away from the classic beachside interiors and sandy feet aesthetic. We wanted raw, quirky, timeless and authentic.

  • My role in the development of Stowaway over the last 10 years was and is all encompassing. From drawing the initial plans, interior design to brand development, menu design, social media, events, staffing and financially backing it alongside my husband. The greatest challenge with having an idea; is that for the idea to have legs it requires a hell of a lot of hard work, determination and sacrifice. What started out as a hole in the wall in 2013 is now a thriving business which employs over 52 staff.

We have created a space that connects the community. It welcomes all ages and champions artisanal makers of quality wine, beer and spirits.
