So, this little bar in Freshwater had a love affair with this little surf shop called Keel. So much so, that they would often express their love on their street side sandwich board.

Written in chalk, the board would read ‘Shop at Keel. Drink at Stow. Never go home.’

From there it became a catch-cry for the community. Locals loved the line so much they wanted to see it on a Tee. And so an art event was born in search of the best design that featured the line. Sponsored by Stone & Wood and raising money for seafaring charityTake 3 for The Sea we asked local designers to design a T-Shirt.

The brief was simple. The design must feature the locally loved tagline.

Over 60 artists submitted designs for the event. Kiwi artist Ben Galbraith won with a killer design of a shiny, happy Shaka waving Sun/Man. The T-shirt is so popular that it’s still in print 5 years on and is still the shop’s highest grossing tee. There is now a Fresh is Best Lager, hats, beer coolers and drink coasters too. Now, fresh really is best.
